My name is Ruby Del Corro and I love to teach Breathing Arts.

I started training Kung Fu about forty years ago and still do so to this present moment. What I have learned is that it is a way of life. This practice has crept into every aspect of my life and I believe has made me a better person. The calm and confidence it gives me makes me a happier and joyful person.

I have always had a passion for anatomy, athletic therapy, and the physics of movement. At 5’ 2” in height I have surprised many larger opponents with the art of redirection and deflection and the hidden strength contained within my frame. But the biggest and greatest opponent was myself. I grew older and as I attained more experience, I began to realize the true strength comes from mindful or purposeful breathing.

As I continue to teach my students, who continue to age from 20’s to 30’s, 40’s and 50’s, the hard-physical training no longer serves the purpose of health but, in some cases, may become detrimental to their bodies because of prior injuries or overuse.

It became obvious that as we age, especially in the art, our mind strength grows and sometimes our bodies cannot keep up. Wanting to continue to practice and teach, I decided to develop a remedy.

By incorporating aerobic, strength training, flexibility and balance, I developed Breathing Arts. A method that can be practiced by anyone without harming his or her body and it comes with the added benefit of learning something new and exciting.

Breathing Arts was developed with everyone in mind - not just practitioners of Kung Fu and with age not being an obstacle.

Now, after several years of studio practice and teaching hundreds if not thousands of students, I now practice at home and teach online to accommodate our students’ busy schedules. Sometime we are all so busy worrying about everybody else we forget to care for ourselves.

It is time for change and we are here to help you. We are here to teach you how to cope, adjust and learn how to fit your health in your busy life.

And here I am. And here you are. Let’s begin our journey.

Dereck Piercey

Hi, I'm Dereck Piercey, Grand Master in Kung Fu.

My training began as a child in the early 70’s. I had a natural talent and love for martial arts and advanced quickly in Tae Kwon Do and then onto Wing Chun.

Upon moving to Calgary in 1977, I exclusively studied Kung Fu and became a Master Teacher of Pai Hu Shi - the White Tiger Style - and a Master Teacher of the Shaolin five animal styles as well.

I recognized early in my teaching career, that with “life” going on with all its distractions and stress, and for this training to be realized and practiced to its full potential, my students needed balance.  It was then I developed and added the practice of focus and breathing, Practical Purposeful Meditation, to my teachings.

Then, and to this day, I continue teach my students how to develop their Chi (in Chinese), Life Force (in English) through Breath, discovering the real power locked within and how to apply this Life Force both in their training and everyday lives as well.

It can be used to explosively in self-defense against an opponent or in an accidental force such as falling. I use it in running as a turbo boost of energy and there are countless more applications.

It was through consistent and dedicated training, both physical and mental, where I found my success and experienced the many rewards of this practice.

Throughout the years, I have developed and taught in 17 studios in North America, produced countless public demonstrations, worked in commercials and stunt work, and bodyguard work as well. It was a busy life for me then and I definitely encountered my share of injuries. The problem was: I always traveling and could not afford to be injured.

It quickly became habit for me to apply the power of conscious breathing to remove unwanted and destructive thoughts from my mind so I could concentrate and focus on each daunting and complex task – including healing.

It was though this practice of focus and breathing that I was able to heal faster than what was then considered to be “normal” and I was able to immediately go to the next demonstration, teach, or travel.

I attend Breathing Arts classes to this very day because it is a masterfully created system. It combines Chi breathing used for protection, focus, healing, determination, and stress relief, with the physical motions that enhance the circulation of the Life Force.

The most important skill to learn is how to utilize your Life Force that can be guided to where it needed it most.
